The Fourth of July weekend is one of Americans’ favorite celebrations, but if you chose to drink and drive while celebrating then you could have found yourself behind bars with 296 of your drunk driving friends. Despite warnings from law enforcement that The Heat is On, many drunk drivers enjoyed their Independence Day in jail!
Col. Scott Hernandez, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol said:
“We always warn people before an increased DUI enforcement period in the hopes it will deter impaired drivers. Unfortunately, many users of Colorado roadways don’t heed our warning, and our troopers are forced to take them off the roads to protect not only that driver, but also everyone else.”
So far, it appears there were 3 fatalities involving alcohol during the 2014 Fourth of July weekend in Colorado. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that during the July 4th holiday weekend from 2008-2012, of all car crash deaths, 40% are alcohol related.
