Get your green on-but remember– Drink & Don’t Drive while you’re celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in the Denver Metro area this weekend.
According to a press release from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), law enforcement will begin their Drink & Don’t Drive crackdown on DUI’s on Colorado roadways, with the Heat is On campaign, beginning Friday, March 14 th at 6:00 pm running through 3am on Tuesday, March 18 th.
In order to keep the roads safe during St. Patrick’s weekend, the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and nearly 90 police departments throughout Colorado want to educate and encourage party-goers to either designate a sober driver or consider other means of transportation such as taxis or the light rail.
According to Darrell Lingk, Director of the Office of Transportation Safety at CDOT,
“Last year our law enforcement partners made 486 DUI arrests during St. Patrick’s Day weekend. This year we are hoping that more people will make the right choice and designate a sober driver.”
CDOT will be distributing The Heat Is On campaign information directly to bars all over Colorado focusing specifically on St. Patrick’s Day partiers with this message: “Embrace your 24-hour Irish heritage. Drink & Don’t Drive yourself home this St. Patrick’s Day.”
CDOT is also promoting their, “Drive High, Get a DUI” campaign reminding marijuana users to make responsible decisions and take alternative transportation after lighting up.
So please remember, for those of you out celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this weekend-Drink & Don’t Drive-law enforcement will be watching!
